Send your bid sheets as soon after receiving catalogue as possible. ■ If you have any choice miaterial you wish me to list In next sale write me about it at once. I j No. 76 i I AUCTION i CATALOGUE of i ] UNITED STATES AND FOREIGN COINS, FOREIGN I I GOLD AND MANY OTHER INTERESTING j ITEMS TO BE SOLD I i Wednesday, December 1, 1948 by i WALTER F. WEBB 2515 Second Avenue North ST. PETERSBURG 6, FLORIDA The Sunshine City Member A.N.S. and A.N.A. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS (Be sure and rtead this page. It only takes three minutes.) All lots are carefully attributed, guaranteed genuine, and grade will be found as noted. Be sure to enter on bid sheet correct lot number and BID BY LOT IN ALL CASES. List^ prices after each item represent the present value of the lots listed. They are not reserve prices, and you must use your own judgment what you wish to bid. Unlimited bids will be accepted and usually insure getting the coin desired at lowest possible price. They should be sent in Immediately on receiving the cata¬ logue. Every issue I receive many such bids which come too late, as some other collector has got In ahead of them. The terms of this sale are cash promptly on receipt of goods. Remit in what¬ ever way is most convenient. Successful bidders will be notified immediately after sale and coins shipped at once, if credit references are O.K. There is no charge for executing bids, but postage on shipment is added to invoice. I frequently put invoice in with parcel of coins. If your bids are not successful, you will always receive a post card immediately notifying you of that fact. If you are bidding for the first time, put references on back of bid sheet. If you have bid at my sales and failed to secure the items desired, write me and I will be glad to look up your sheet and tell you where the trouble is. There is much to learn in making bids at mail auction sales. GOOD SUGGESTION — If you only send four to six bids, put on bottom or back of bid sheet a second selection of as many bids as you wish. These SECONDS will not be entered on my bid book and only used if you fail to secure some or all first entered. In no case will the total amount be more than your original bids. Quite often I have items on which there are no bids. I like to see every bidder get something. My terms for selling coins have always been the same. All uncircualted and proof coins, all gold and all specimens that sell for $25 and up, the rate id 10%. All other coins 20%. I dio not sell your coins just to get a commission. If I feel the bids do not represent a decent value of the material it is not sold, but returned touthe owner. You have not the slightest chance of getting stuck when I sell your coins. As one collector wrote, you play absolutely fair with owner and buyer, which is the way it should be. 2 FOREIGN GOLD The most beautiful and Interesting of all coins and now sold at very modest prices for what you get. 1 Afghanistan 1926 Half Amani Throne room in open wreath Unc $25 2 Afghanistan 1925 One Amani simi¬ lar to above Unc $35 3 Austria 1886 Ducat Fianz Joseph with his bust Brill Proof $15 4 Austria 1896 10 Corona Franz Joseph Unc $12 5 Austria 1915 4 Ducats Franz Joseph, One of the most beautiful coins issued Brill Proof $75 6 Australia 1866 Sovereign of Vic¬ toria VF scarce $25 7 Bavaria 1659 Ducat Chas Ludwig Bust r VP scarce $25 8 Bavaria 1719 D’Or of Maxmilian with flowing hair bust VP $25 9 Bavaria 1842 Ducat Louis I His bust r: Brill Proof $25 10 Bavaria 1854 Ducat Maximilian II Bust r. I finally decided td go north and on Oct. 11 the - wife and I boarded the wonderful Constellation four ; motored ship, that seated 56 passengers and in 7 hours '> were in Boston. Flying at 15,000 feet at 5 miles a .i minute it was so smooth you could not tell you were - moving but returning on the 31st, below Atlanta we : run into thunder clouds about a mile deep with high < wind, and for the next 15 minutes the ship jumped ! around some and once dropped wit ha bump that sent 1 all loose articles into the aisle, but we soon were in ! clear sky and sailing as smooth as ever. It was our ■ first trip in the air and we enjoyed it very much. When I returned I found the October auction list : in type and it Avas finished and mailed as soon as -i possible, I notified the postoffice and they immediately accumulated mail, hundreds of letters, parcels, etc., and I was fully occupied catching up and getting started again i I have had two printers working for me getting out two new books on shells < with over 3000 illustrations. Reading all this proof twice getting colored plates made for the jackets, w'riting up indexes all of which is in Latin, has also taken . much time, but it is finished and they will soon be in the hands of collectors and I book stores in every state. All of the above has nothing to do with coins. I attended the convention in Boston for 3 very hot days. Never suffered so much in Florida as there. Those hotels should be fully air conditioned. The bourse where the dealers had their stands were like a hot furnace. Every one shed all the clothes they could. The immense room where coins were exhibited was so poorly lighted one had to get his head down to the cases to make out what he was looking at. BUT in the room where the meetings were held it was air conditioned and in the tap room it was cool, all other places hot. I thought the convention was poorly attended. I figured less than 2% of the actual membership was there. Local collectors of course attended largely in the evening after work. The exhibits were I felt far below other conventions I attended but every one seemed toi enjoy the conven¬ tion and that is what conted most. If you have fine coins you wish to turn into money write me about them at once so they can go in February auction. I like to diversify my catalogues as much as possible and this one contains a lot of foreign coins as so many collectors tire of the USA series and turn to the coins of other countries, which go backi to 700 BC. I had a Gold Daric in last sale one of the earliest gold coins ever minted. I like to have these old pieces if in superb condition as was the above piece. There is a very good demond now for fine foreign crowns specially the hun¬ dreds of kinds which are not so regularly offered. The $2.50 gold in last sale went mostly for $9 and $9.50 each as all were common dates and those bidders who stuck to $6, $7,' and $8 got practically nothing, most of them, none at all. It would appear that the demand is up and not down. Gold dollars are in better demand than ever if., choice. At this writing I have not received the neAV edition of Standard Catalogue! When they come I will have them for sale, so send in your order if you wish one. 22 BID SHEET WALTER F.
